Honestly, the starter ex could of been over at various times. that being said, i do think there's an audience for this book! It reads like how to lose a guy in 10 days plus 27 dresses mix with latine feels. If that's your jam I'd rec it. For me all the better moments were just bogged down by the plot. At a certain point, it just no longer made sense to continue the original plot. 2.5/5 because it wasn't for me, but maybe a 3-4/5 for someone else.
#myra reads the starter ex#random#i love messes but jfc that wasnt a mess that was like reading chisme#like the story is so outrageous someone is lying but you cant tell which one is but there's truth type of chisme#tbh we deserve latine rep even#also the end of the 2nd act going into the 3rd act was so messy and poorly constructed lmfaoo#a romcom of the 00s for sure#myra's reading adventures

Hello there baby, are your parents bakers? Cause you're a cutie pie lol sorry couldn't resist the urge to flirt with my favorite writer💕How have you been? How was your day? I wish you a wonderful day and a lovely night💕
It's my first time here sending an ask but lately I've been thinking about shy!Spencer x flirty!reader, I just think is such a cute couple.
So if you're taking requests, I was thinking about early seasons Spencer completely falling for the reader and the way she's so flirty but sweet and kind, the way he'd be blushing hard at anything she says and how he'd like the way she's always touching him cause he felt cherised and desired.
It could be fluff or smut or both cause I can picture them going slow with the relationship but Spencer being eager to please her and show how much he loves everything about her.
You said about choosing a emoji, so can I be the 🐇anon?
A/N: Thanks for the request! Shy Spencer is the best because he's so dumb and silly and doesn't realize when people are attracted to him. I've said it before, but he's basically every nerdy main character in 00s romcoms that are "unattractive" because they wear glasses. I hope you enjoy the fic~♡
Warnings: mentions of case details, slight spoilers for upto s5
With a degree in law and a deep-rooted hatred of businessmen, you'd certainly found your calling in one of the FBI White Collar divisions. Putting away the sleazy bastards was easily one of the biggest perks of the job, but every coin had a second side, and yours was you actually had to interact with the cretins before you could take them down.
You'd dealt with bribes, dinner invites, and sexual propositions more than a time or two, and had to remind yourself that kicking anyone of them clean in the balls was most likely a firing offense, if not legally off the table.
The man in the case you were currently working - possibly Bill Hodges, possibly Daniel Brady, possibly so many more men - had been a typical white collar freak until he'd moved on to murder. And when you'd been so close to nailing his ass for fraud, too.
You'd had no choice but to call in whatever unit it was that actually got to put bullets in the bastards, sure that you were going to be strong-armed out of months of work for the glory of taking down a spree killer.
Instead, you got Spencer Reid, delivered freshly to your desk like a lamb to slaughter.
“Sorry, you're the agent from the BAU?” You asked, raking your eyes across his body, smiling at his obvious discomfort with the attention.
“Yes, Doctor Reid. I'm here for more information on the Hodges files.”
You dusted your skirt off as you stood, moving around the desk to grab the file. You held it out to him but pulled it back when he reached for it.
“I'm sorry, you're really in the BAU?” An embarrassed look fell across his face, and you instantly felt shitty.
“Do you want to see my credentials?”
“No, I'm sorry, it's just - I wasn't expecting someone so…pretty?”
The embarrassed look deepened to a flush, and you brightened at the sight. You weren't lying. He really was pretty, and you hoped your comment hadn't come off as patronizing.
“You're adorable. Here's the file, I’ll be at your team briefing in half an hour. Spencer, right?”
He nodded, finally waking up and taking the files as you pushed it against his chest, using the movement to step slightly closer.
“I'll see you later then,” you trailed your look down, getting a good look at all of him before meeting his eyes again. “Save me a seat?”
“I should… I'll, uh, go now. Thanks for the-” he stammered, pointing to the file, backing out of your space slowly, like an animal trying not to show its back to a predator.
Unlike the long line of scumbags filling the halls and case files of your floor, Spencer was without bravado or ego. His lack of both meant that you were interested. You were very interested.
Half an hour later, you practically sprinted to the 6th floor, bouncing up the stairs to the office where you'd take your meeting like a giddy school girl.
“Hello, sorry, I'm not late, am I?” You asked, quietly opening the door and letting yourself in.
“Agent Y/N, no, perfect timing, Penelope was just about to brief us on your case,” Hotch said, rising and giving your hand a firm shake. He looked around to find a seat to usher you into, but you quickly dropped yourself into the seat right beside Spencer Reid, grin deepening as he flushed and offered you an awkward yet endearing smile.
Unconsciously, you shifted closer, shooting him your own smile before the meeting officially began, and you were forced to keep a straight, serious face.
The entire case progressed in much the same way, with you doing everything you could to fluster Spencer Reid and him doing everything in his power to convince himself you were being friendly.
“Spencer, do you have a phone number?” You asked after slipping out of the meeting, trailing him back to his desk.
“Yeah, we have to keep connected for cases, so I have a phone.”
“Great. Your number - what is it?”
He rattled off the digital as you scribbled them down on a notepad.
“And Hotch's number is-”
“Oh, I won't need that. Thanks, Spencer.” You said waving as you left to slink back to your desk. You could hear him calling out behind you, confused.
“Y/N… Y/N, we split up on cases often, if there's an incident and you need to contact us it's better to have all of the team members numbers,” he panted, jogging to catch up with your focused pace.
“If I need to contact you, I'll take myself to Agent Garcia’s office and use her direct line,” you said, finally stopping yourself at the elevator and pressing the button.
He caught up, and stopped abruptly next to you.
“Oh… oh, yeah that's… that's efficient.”
You stepped onto the elevator when it arrived, leaving Spencer hesitating whether or not to climb in himself, desperately wondering why you'd ask for his number then.
“Goodbye, Doctor Reid,” you said, pressing the door close button and blowing him a kiss just before the doors blocked you from sight.
To tell the truth, you'd had a lot of fun flirting with Spencer on the phone from Penelope’s office during the case. The woman was an inspiration, even if her flirting had a completely different purpose and meaning than your own. Her friendship with Derek Morgan was admirable, but you didn't want to be friends with Spencer Reid.
“Hello, handsome, what can I do for you today?” You asked, picking up the phone and basking in the stammers that answered you down the line.
“D-Do you need me to get Morgan for you?” He said, his voice treading lightly.
“Unless Derek Morgan has, overnight, managed to turn into a 6’1 Doctor with a penchant for cardigans and leather satchels and an IQ of 187, then I am absolutely not looking for him. I have case details.”
He brushed past your comment, but he kept the slight stammer through the conversation, right until you signed off.
“Until next time, sexy.”
“Um, yeah… thanks…beautiful?” he signed off, and you guffawed in laughter even as Penelope stared wide-eyed in your direction, not believing her ears.
“Please forgive our little test tube genius. We forgot to add flirting skills to his childhood curriculum, and now, alas, the poor thing doesn't know a damn thing.”
He'd called back a few hours later, and you'd purred more compliments down the line, but this time with the team surrounding him as they closed in on your unsub.
“Hello, this is beautiful speaking. How may I help you?” You giggled down the line, picking up the call after only a single ring.
“Y/N,” he breathed, catching his breath awkwardly as he struggled to remember why it was you were needed.
“So… um, like… Hotch has a question about the files you sent earlier. He needs Penelope to… do something as well.”
You could almost see the awkward nod through the phone.
“Great. Pass me over to Hotch, then, hot stuff.”
You heard the tell-tale sound of Derek Morgan’s cackle in the background, and you couldn't help but let another giggle slip out. You were a gonner, and, hopefully, so was he.
The case wrapped quickly after that, spree killing being a quick game of cat and mouse out of necessity. You weren't happy with three bodies, but it sure as hell was preferable to more.
You greeted the BAU team at the jet hanger as they returned, reclaiming your fraud files for paperwork and using that simple chore as a reason to get close to Spencer again.
“Good work out there, Doctor Reid.”
“What, he's not hot stuff anymore now he's in front of you?” Emily Prentiss laughed, throwing her go bag onto her shoulder and trailing behind where you'd started strolling alongside Spencer.
“Oh, he's still hot stuff. He's just hot stuff with three PhDs that just stopped a spree killer,” you said, sighing dreamily. “How do you do it?”
“We were all there too, you know,” the other woman chuckled as you made it inside the building and to the elevator.
“Yeah, well,” you said, taking a second to reach out and straighten out Spencer's skewed tie, smoothing his jacket and generally just touching him in whatever way you could, respectfully.
You didn't even bother to finish your sentence, just leaning closer to his ears and whispering directly into them.
“You're very cute when you're flustered, Doctor Reid.”
You stepped away for a second while the rest of his team teased him, stepping to the back of the elevator to ascend to your floor while the others departed on theirs.
They filed out one by one and you sent them off with a smile and a wave, signing in defeat as you realized there was no longer a reason for you to interact with the good doctor ever again.
If you weren't so stupidly aware of him, you'd almost have missed the fact that Spencer didn't leave the elevator when his teammates did. He instead turned to you and, with the brightest red you'd seen on his face to date, stammered out half a sentence.
“I.. Y/N, I was just… curious, if you, by any chance…”
Your eyes widened in joy as you anticipated his question, silently begging him just to spit it out.
“I was wondering, i-if you had… a boyfriend?” By the end of his sentence, even he seemed unsure of whether that was a question he should really be asking.
You'd been throwing heart eyes at him for says, and he was asking if you were in a committed relationship.
“No,” you said slightly breathily, as if your body were trying to expel all the anticipation it had stupidly built up. “No, I don't have a boyfriend, Spencer.”
“Great okay,” he smiled, a boyish grin if you'd ever seen one, before backtracking quickly.
“Well not great for you, great for me. Not that you can't be happy alone, I don't know how you feel about…romantic entanglements and I-I-I’m not saying that your life isn't,” he searched for the words with his hands, as of he could grasp them as a life line while he was sinking fast. “-Great without a boyfriend or anything like that, I'm just - really - pleased that position is currently… vacant?”
“Spencer?” You said, feeling like a cat who got the cream as a smile twitched at your lips, pulling the corners up as you listened to him ramble.
“Yes?”
“Do you want to be my boyfriend or are you asking for a friend?”
You'd meant the words as a joke but he stood contemplating for a second. You pushed a hand against your mouth to suppress the childish squeal from popping out.
“It would be a bit presumptuous to shoot straight for boyfriend, right? How about date ....partner?”
You couldn't stop yourself from closing in on him then, practically cornering him in the elevator as the floors passed you by.
“Presumptuous would be thinking I could have a boyfriend when I've been begging you to stick your tongue down my throat with my eyes for the last half hour. I thought they taught you body language at the BAU?”
“They teach us how to catch criminals, not how to see when someone is giving us…fuck me eyes, Y/N.” The curse left you a little dizzy - this was it, this was what you'd been trying to do all week, to get under his skin and get him to let his guard down so you could capture him.
“Doctor Reid, I'm a little scandalized! I didn't know you swore. What a dirty mouth you have.” You reached up with both hands, letting your thumb on his lips before pretending to wipe something away at the corner of his mouth. You were in the perfect position to notice his throat bob as he swallowed.
The elevator pinged at your floor, and you left him behind you with one last swipe of your fingers at his chin. You weren't expecting him to follow, but he did.
“Y/N…please, Y/N…. Can we just…?” You relished the awkwardness in his voice as he trailed you again, a satisfied smile settling onto your face.
You just kept walking. Or you did until you felt a large hand wrap around your wrist and pull you sideways into the nearest storage cupboard.
You gasped as he pinned you to the wall, close not, but his eyes still hesitant on what to do next.
“Spen-” He cut you off with his lips on yours, silencing you before you could get the final word. His lips were clumsy at first, but you felt hot under his touch arching yourself up into him. His tongue pushed into your mouth as he found his stride, your hands tangling in his hair as you held on for dear life.
This was it. This was what you'd been waiting for.
Reluctantly, he pulled away, both of you gasping for breath to fill your suddenly empty lungs.
“Was that….what… you wanted?” He panted, resting his head on yours.
There were no words. It was what you wanted but now you wanted more, needed more. You settled for a quick nod as your tongue flamed, unable to say anything helpful.
“Good. Great…” he removed his hands from you and scratched at the back of his neck, putting a more respectful distance between the two of you as he cleared his throat.
“I'll just-” he pointed to the door and started making his way out. You sighed again, watching him walk away down the hall, his hair a mess, his tie askew, and a whole lot of your lipstick staining his lips.
Surely, he'd notice by the time anyone else did. If not, you'd just effectively staked your claim on Doctor Spencer Reid, and you couldn't be happier about it.

This is part 3 of the ‘Missing’ series!
7:00 AM
🤍 - Rosalla’s POV
The sun starts rising and the sun pools into my room through the windows as I wake up from my slumber with a weird feeling of soreness and bruised skin on the inner parts of my thighs.
Immediately ripping the duvet off the lower half of my body I slide down my pyjama pants to my mid-thighs, seeing several marks left behind on the inner skin of my thighs.
Inspecting it, confused on how the fuck did I get them? I don’t think I woke up in the middle of the night to go take a piss and even if did, I wouldn’t have bruises on my inner thighs.
Searching my mind for a presumable answer, I scout out one most reasonable answer that makes the most sense.
My stalker.
But what was he doing between my thighs?…
Realization hits me like a big bookshelf falling down, it’s obvious what he was doing there now. Immediately I pull my pyjama pants right back up and a weird feeling of my dark fantasies coming to life…
I’ve never confessed to something like this to anyone except for my now ex-boyfriend, one morning we were just cuddling in bed and I started to talk about a dream I had about a being chased down by a man in a mask and then being taken against my will.
That morning I had woken up all wet and horny so I asked my now ex-boyfriend if we wanted to try something like that, he looked at me and said I was fucked up in the head and proceeded to ignore me for two whole weeks which broke my heart.
Those two weeks I’ve spent at home eating ice-cream, watching romcoms and crying myself to sleep. Blaming myself for even having such dreams, such dark and twisted fantasies in the dark parts of my brain…
He was the one that broke up with me since I had felt seriously emotionally attachted to him, like he actually loved me but it all ended when he found out I have a stalker and he said he couldnt be seen with me, knowing theres some other man lurking and watching our every move somewhere in the dark shadows.
I finally get the strength to get out of bed and make my way over to the bathroom to take a refreshing morning shower. Thank god I have a day off today or I would not survive an hour at work.
Undressing myself I step into the shower, washing my spiraling thoughts taunting me in the dark depths of my mind down my body. Running a hand over my face I silence out all of the voices in my head all speaking at once and allow myself to finally relax and have a moment of peace.
| - 🍂 - |
7:47 AM
I’ve gotten out of the shower and thrown on some random clothes I found in my closet so I won’t sit in my pyjamas all day even though i was being close to doing that. A simple black tank top under an oversized off-shoulder gray hoodie with black sweatpants and mini uggs on my feets, my hair being put up lazily in a messy bun. ( outfit here )
I walk down the stairs and enter the kitchen, putting on some my hometown Spanish music on the speakers I start preparing some breakfast, my hips swaying from side to side each time I walk and when I'm standing they start to create circle, dancing to the music using my hips.
🖤 - Matthew’s POV
I watch her every move, every sway of her hips and move of her perfect body. She wont be able to escape me now ever since I've laid my eyes on her that one time, after I got home that day I did all of my research and found out as much as I could without her finding out.
Fuck, she sure knows how to move her hips.
Also I may or may not installed cameras in her house a few weeks after she became my newly found obsession but atleast I can keep an eye on her and protect my girl from any danger coming her way she may not know of. No one touches what’s mine.
Shes preparing breakfast, doing something normal in this moment and still manages to look even more gorgeous each time.
I sit back in my chair at my house, watching her from all different angles on numerous monitors on my wall from the cameras I have scarretered all over her house in those small and invisible spots she would never think to check.
A laptop is dismissently sitting on my lap with the dark web opened and the newly leaked video loading, I'm checking if the new victim isn't her missing sister by any chance and to hopefully track down the location of their new stay. I've been trying to catch those fuckers for some time now with my team and we've been close in the past but never close enough.
I'm moving my gaze from a goddess dancing in her kitchen to a gory, disgusting video of various of tortureous acts being preformend on children, why do I do this you may ask? I don't know it just sucked me into the dark layers of the world and once you go in, you can't get out.
| - 🍂 - |
10:25 AM
She’s already ate breakfast, had a dance party and singing competition with the voices in her head. Finally she’s now resting on the couch of her living room writing in a journal-like notebook with her cat Willow sleeping in her lap.
That journal holds some of her darkest secrets and I’ve somehow managed to get my hands on it one night, reading thought the different things she’s been through and establishing her ex-boyfriend is a total asshole and didn’t deserve her.
If I could I would teach him a goddamn lesson for treating her like the way he did and when I first found out I was close to actually bashing that motherfucker head with a brick but I kept myself under control and decided to leave it alone.
🤍 - Rosalla’s POV
I was just journaling in my notebook, it’s always felt therapeutic to me and helped me to find my peace or to drain my constantly spiralling thoughts onto paper so I don’t have to bottle them up inside of me.
My cat Willow is snuggly cuddled up on my lap, peacefully sleeping. I wish I could be so carefree with no worries on my head like her, maybe if I was a cat I wouldn’t constantly be burying myself in my thoughts?
As I try to relax, placing the journal down next to me the memories of me and my missing sister together flood back into my mind, clouding any other thought I might have had in there.
A single small tear swirls in my eye and falls down onto the delicate fur of my cat as I pet her back, smiling at the funny and wholesome memories we had together as tears start to prick my eyes.
I wish she was here with me.
authors note: I didn’t know how to end this, kinda ended on a sad note but I finally finished it and fed you my children, there’s more backstory here to go indeep with the characters pasts. Hope I didn’t make you wait long and hope you enjoyed this!

the deal. || ldh
in which you never wanted to ask your stupid neighbor for help in chasing your dream man - but desperate times call for desperate measures - even if that meant giving lee donghyuck the satisfaction of parking his car in your spot.
word count: 3.5k
genre, warnings: fluff at the end, smidge of angst, slice of life, neighbor!au, high school!au, one sided enemies to lovers, mistaking admiration for love, very romcom movie there's a kiss in the rain scene somewhere in here, mark lee is in the same grade as the 00s for plot purposes, underage drinking, profanities
bgm: hits different by taylor swift, can i call you tonight? by dayglow, disaster by conan gray, i like me better by lauv, kiss goodnight by i dont know how but they found me
a/n: i read better than the movies and the whole time i was thinking "you know who this trope would look good on? hyuck." and thus this was birthed. there's a another neighbor!au in my drafts but the brainrot has taken over i'm afraid.
A proud grin, the tinkling of his keys, an annoying strut. These were all the qualities Lee Donghyuck sported in this very moment as he climbs out of his car. Perfectly parallel parked in the spot outside your house.
If only you were rich. You'd run your stupid neighbor over in a heartbeat then pay the bail to get out of jail. Instead, you wear a scowl reserved especially for the boy, click your tongue, and park a good five minute walk away.
Technically, the parking spot was between your house and the Lees next door. But technically, the spot was 60% on your side, and 40% on theirs. So technically, shouldn't that spot be yours? Why was your shit head of a neighbor adamantly trying to feud with you?
The five minute walk, lovingly dubbed the "walk of shame" by both you and your sworn enemy, would be a lovely three minute walk home - if not for the Kims on the corner who loved starting conversations with whoever passed by. On a good day, you would get away with two minutes of conversation ("Oh sorry Mrs. Kim, I have an assignment I just must get to."). Other days? You weren't so lucky.
"Four minutes? I think that might be a new record." Donghyuck gloats, leaning against his car.
"You were timing me?" You glare at his casual demeanor, wondering how he could possibly be so insufferable.
"Well, I have to know what I'm up against."
You snort, passing by the boy waving his keys around like a trophy, making sure your middle finger was up and in sight.
"Jealousy is a disease, babe." He sings as you slam the door shut behind you.
He really was insufferable.
You should've known.
When you agreed to go to Liu Yangyang's party on the condition that someone drive you, you would've thought he would send someone like Jaemin or Jeno - the duo that always seemed to be the assigned sober drivers. Looking back, you were naïve.
You should've known he'd send your neighbor.
Thus, leads you to the present. Lee Donghyuck in your kitchen, chatting up your mother while you hurriedly try to find your jacket before said mother gets any more charmed by the kid next door.
Truth be told, you were close to not going to the party at all. But then you caught wind that he'd be there and it'd be silly not to grab hold of any chance you could have to impress him.
Donghyuck watches you move around out of the corner of his eye and when you started to move towards the door, he knew you were ready. But he'd spend extra long bidding your mom farewell, just so you'd wait a few minutes longer. He always liked keeping you waiting.
"I never took you for a house partier." Donghyuck comments when the two of you enter his car. "Stop checking yourself out in the mirror, you look the same as always."
You flip the sun visor back up with a scoff. What's wrong with making sure your hair was laying the way you wanted it?
"I never thought you'd agree to drive me to a house party."
"What can I say? I love giving back to the community."
It was a mystery to you how Donghyuck was so beloved around both the town and school. He was sarcastic, petty, and most importantly, constantly went against you. Perhaps everyone was blinded by his attractiveness? He did have a pretty face.
"I get that my face is attractive, but you don't have to look so hard. I think you're staring holes into my lovely cheek."
Correction, he had a pretty face when his mouth was shut.
It was loud, you could feel the bass pumping through your body. Drunk teenagers littered the floor of Yangyang's suburban house, bouncing to the beat and having the time of their lives. Swerving through the crowd of bodies, you picked up on bits of gossip you were sure you weren't supposed to hear. But by the end of the night, you were sure you would've forgotten about whatever scandal Shotaro from biology got into anyway.
Somehow still together, you and your neighbor find the host mixing unidentifiable liquids together in a red solo cup on the kitchen counter.
"Yang, is that poison or alcohol?"
"How dare you, it's called "a good time.""
He offers you the cup, which you turn down. You know how drunk Yangyang likes to get at his parties. Therefore, you know that one sip of whatever was in that cup could probably send you to ER. And you refused to go to ER without at least getting one glance of your dream man.
A quick scan of the room told you that he wasn't here, at least, not within your radius.
"No alcohol for me tonight. I have to drive this one back."
You raised an eyebrow as Donghyuck declines Yangyang's "special blend".
"How responsible." You tease.
"Only because you're here. I don't want you dying at my hands." He counters, leaning back and meeting your gaze, smirk on his lips. "How would I ever face your mother again?"
"Yo, Haechan, dude, you finally made it." A familiar voice sounds.
Enter, Mark Lee. Star athlete, every teacher's favorite student, adorably awkward, and your crush of two months. You swore he had this glow around him that made everything he does so endearing, even when he accidentally sent a basketball flying to your head once.
"Oh, hey Y/N. Didn't know you were coming as well."
"Yeah! I came with Donghyuck! Well, not with him but he was my ride here and will be my ride home so-"
You really had to do something about your nervous rambling in front of Mark.
Mark stayed for a small conversation with your little group before someone hurled on Yangyang's bathroom tiles, not making it to the toilet in time. The host (grumbling about how he just cleaned it yesterday) went to sort it out, your crush in tow.
You stare fondly at his back disappearing into the crowd before you feel a hot breath on your neck.
"No way. You like Mark Lee."
The car ride home was painful for you. Despite your attempts to bargain with him the whole party so he would shut up, the boy behind the wheel spends the whole ten minute drive teasing you like an elementary schooler instead. The song about kissing in a tree involved.
"What is it about him that you like?" Donghyuck asks, an amused glint in his eyes.
"Why? So you can hold it against me for the rest of my life?"
"Wow, I'm offended. Who do you take me for? I would never."
You raise an unbelieving eyebrow at him, only to be met by his side profile in the moonlight. The silver light beams against his features and you only just realize the constellation of stars on his cheek. The light at the intersection flashes red and the car smooths to a stop, Donghyuck turns to look at you, a small smile on his lips.
Shit, isn't this kind of intimate?
"Fuck off." You cough out, swiveling your head to look out the window instead. "Eyes on the road, Lee."
"I'm a Lee, but not the Lee you want." He exclaims, following it with an overly dramatic sob.
Keeping a steady stare out the window, you try to calm your reeling mind. Eyes on the prize, Y/N.
The prize being Mark Lee, of course.
Speaking of which.
"Donghyuck, you're friends with Mark right?"
"Depends. Are you going to ask me to help you get with him?"
You sit up in your seat and make your best possible attempt at puppy dog eyes, "please? I wouldn't ask if I didn't have a choice."
It was true, begging Donghyuck was the last thing you ever wanted to do. But you weren't getting anywhere by yourself and they were friends so surely that could help your case? At least he could tell you what type of person Mark liked? Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Your neighbor goes silent, presumably thinking about this suggestion. "What would I get in return though?"
Of course he wasn't just going to help you for nothing. So you rack your brains for something you'd be willing to exchange.
The car turns into your familiar neighborhood, passing Mrs Kim's house. And as the car pulls into the parking spot in front of your house, you spill out, "I'll give you the parking spot."
Donghyuck's eyebrows go up at this suggestion and his signature smirk makes it's way back onto his face. He leans his arm against the back of your seat and you instinctively lean back, fighting the urge to wipe that stupid grin off him.
"You're willing to take the "walk of shame" everyday for him?"
You click your tongue, "the parking space. Take it or leave it."
He leans back, mouth still curved up. The distance lets you release a breath you didn't know you were holding.
"You make a compelling argument."
"Well?"
"Deal."
You give him a nod, moving to exit the car and crawl back into the comfortable sheets of your bed, but Donghyuck's hand on your arm stops you. In confusion, you look back at him.
"I'm not fake dating you though."
"Hyuck, this isn't "To All the Boys I've Loved Before". I would rather die than fake date you."
The corners of his lips quirk up into a smile - not a smirk - at his nickname. "Hyuck?"
"I'm going home."
True to his word, for the next couple of weeks Donghyuck actively played a part in nudging you and Mark together. However, as much as he tried to create chances for you and your crush to be alone, your habit of nervous rambling when making conversation didn't help at all. It's not your fault Mark has the prettiest eyes you've ever seen. Though, somewhere in the back of your mind lingers a mischievous pair that glimmered the same way stars twinkled that night he drove you home.
Ever since making the "Making Mark Lee Y/N's Boyfriend" pact with your neighbor, you've been spending a lot more time together than you've ever had in the past. Admittingly, you've been enjoying it.
When did you last laugh as hard as you did when he attempted to step over the fence separating your houses? ("I can do it, my legs are long enough. Watch.") The boy ended up stuck with one leg half over and the other dangling off and because he looked ridiculous, you ended up on the soft grass of your backyard, tears in the corners of your eyes as you laughed.
When was the last time you felt comfortable enough with a person to share your deepest insecurities with each other in the dead of the night? Texting him nothing but a sad emoji as the clock hits 3am, receiving a response almost immediately - "Can I call you?". Talking about your ambitions, dreams, and fears until the sun rose above the horizon and you both realized you had school in an hour.
That didn't mean you liked him or anything though, right?
You liked Mark.
Or so you thought.
Maybe?
Fuck. How dare Donghyuck confuse you like this.
Sometimes, you wonder how things turn out. How the smallest choices can lead you down a whole new path entirely. And how they all led to Lee Donghyuck currently being sprawled on his stomach on your bed, legs swinging in the air.
Right. You had a date with the other Lee. The one you allegedly had a crush on. Well, it wasn't a date per se. It was more of a one on one friendly hangout? Donghyuck had gotten movie tickets for both him and Mark - then ditched the day before and said you would go in his place. It was kind of genius.
"Okay, would Mark like this color better than the blue?" You ask, clothes strewn across the floor. A good chunk of your day had been spent digging through your closet looking for clothes you think Mark would like. Your neighbor couldn't care less about your crisis. He barely spared a glance up at you before he returned to whatever he was looking at on his phone.
"Looks good."
"Donghyuck, I need you to keep up your half of the deal."
The boy finally gives you his attention. Pulling himself up so that he's sitting on the edge on your bed, staring straight at you.
"Shouldn't you want him to like you as you are? There's no point doing all this-" He gestures to the mess, "-just to impress him. I think you'd look nice even if you chose to wear your pajamas out."
"But he doesn't like me. Not yet at least. That's why I have you to help me."
"...Right."
The atmosphere suddenly becomes stuffy. You wonder if you said the wrong thing because suddenly, the boy next door is leaving. It's not surprising given that the both of you spent half a day going through your wardrobe and he probably had things to do. But, you just can't shake the uneasy feeling.
"Hey, are we good? Did I say something wrong?"
"No, we're good. Good luck." Donghyuck says at your door, a smile unlike any of the previous ones you've seen gracing his face. It seemed forced.
A faint pitter patter of rain hitting the window panes sounds through the quiet room.
You hope he made it home without getting wet.
"Man, I didn't know you liked Spiderman too."
"Mmhm."
You made it to the theatres with Mark. You enjoyed watching the movie with Mark. You were getting driven home by Mark. You had a great time with your crush. So why was your mind still on a certain situation and a certain someone from before.
"My other friends all watched it on a day I got called into work so I was surprised when Haechan was willing to re-watch it with me - he's usually not that nice, you know?"
The edges of your mouth lift a little at the dig at Donghyuck. In front, the windshield wipers squeak a little, trying their best to rid the glass of rain droplets. The radio plays an old song in the background that Mark hums softly to, thumbs tapping in time on the wheel while waiting for the lights to turn green. It was cozy, but could never measure up to how intimate you felt in the car with Donghyuck.
"Then he dips last minute. Honestly, I shouldn't have been surprised. I was more surprised that you were coming instead though - I thought you would've wanted to watch it with Haechan."
Your brows furrow. "Why?"
"Oh - I thought you liked him."
The world around you stopped. Though the light turned green and the car was definitely moving now, you felt your entire body freeze.
"How did you come to that conclusion?"
Mark's confusion showed on his face, his emotions always did. That was one of the things you liked about him. Or so, you thought.
"Well, for starters, you're much more comfortable around him. I don't know if that's just because you always tense up when I'm around. I'm sorry if I've done anything to make you uncomfortable by the way, it was never my intention."
Mark Lee, your supposed crush, thought you were uncomfortable around him. You lean your head against the window of his car, it was nice and cool. Perfect as you let yourself ponder.
You always were unnecessarily nervous around him - but wasn't that normal? You liked him. You liked his smile, how he was able to win the favors of everyone around him so easily, how he was always reliable, how good he was at sports- oh.
It was never romantic.
You didn't know anything about Mark. You never even had a proper conversation with him. What he liked to do in his spare time, what his plan was for the future, what stupid habit he has, what he sounds like over the phone at 3am. You had no idea.
But you knew what Donghyuck liked to do in his spare time, what he wanted to do in the future, what his stupid habit was, what he sounded like over the phone at 3am.
Fuck.
And it all came rushing to you all at once.
The prize was always something shiny, blazing, and brilliant. It was something you wanted but would put on a shelf to admire. Mark Lee was your prize. Someone you admired. He was never someone you imagined having debates with for the rest of your life. He was never someone you imagined spending rainy days indoors together with.
Perhaps, after all this time, the prize wasn't what you were after. Perhaps, what you really wanted was to spend time with-
"No way."
"Hm?"
"I like Lee Donghyuck."
Your admiration for Mark was a luminous, fleeting feeling that you mistook for love. Love was never about having to dress like a different person to impress them. Love was laughing together at the smallest things, showing up in two week old pajamas and still thinking they're the most beautiful being you've laid eyes on, and sometimes, love was fighting over a parking spot outside your house.
Mark grins. "Great. He's been in love with you since third grade."
"What?'
"Why do you think he's never dated before? All this time, he's been waiting for you to realize."
"I'm glad we got closer today," Mark mentions, pulling onto your street, "you seem a lot more comfortable now."
Yeah, because you no longer thought Mark was your dream man. A weight was taken off your shoulders now and you didn't feel the need to keep up an act around him anymore.
"Thanks for today."
"Hey dude, no worries. Just let me know if you need any help wooing Haechan alright? I love helping couples get together."
"...Didn't you try before with two other couples?"
"...Yeah... They didn't turn out how I thought they would."
The two of you share a laugh before you clamber out of his vehicle and wave him goodbye from your porch. The rain had started pouring down from the grey skies but your fingers hesitate at your door.
Fuck it.
Instead of walking into your warm and dry house, you decide to brave the rain and run over to your neighbor's, splashing through the puddles without care. It soaked the clothes you spent forever deciding on and ruined your meticulously done hair, but urgent times call for urgent measures.
Two knocks and the door swings open, revealing the boy next door behind. His eyes widen at the sight of you taking heaving breaths on his doorstep, hair and clothes complete wet and still getting pelted on by the rain.
"Did he hurt you?"
The urge to laugh bubbles through you. He was always putting you first. All this time, he was helping you chase another man. He was ready to give up on his chance with you if that meant you had a chance of being happy with someone else. Even now, after you'd hurt him, he was still worried about you.
"Lee Donghyuck, I'm in love with you."
For a while, everything's silent. Even the rain fell mute on your ears. All you could see was your rival's jaw open in shock and his Adams apple bobbing up and down trying to find the words to say. It was quite a satisfying view.
Then you start rambling as panic settles in. The need to apologize for hurting him, how you actually felt about Mark, how you found out about your feelings. Old habits die hard.
Except, not even a full sentence into your unplanned speech, Donghyuck steps out of his house, into the rain, and cuts you off with his warm, soft lips on yours. You stumble back, not expecting the sudden weight on you, and the two of you fall back onto the wet, cold grass on his front yard.
"You have no idea how long I've waited to hear that."
His face was as close to yours as physically possible, eyes gazing lovingly over your features, wanting to soak every second of this moment in.
"Let me guess, since third grade?"
"I knew Mark couldn't be trusted."
Laughter claims you both before you pull him in by the collar for another kiss. There were grass stains on your clothes, it was cold and muddy, and the two of you will definitely end up with a cold the next day, but somehow, in that moment, you felt as though the world was yours.
"I kept my end of the deal."
"What do you mean?"
"You ended up getting a boyfriend with the name "Lee". I think that means I get the parking spot."
You smile.
"I'd happily do the walk of shame for you."

I. I just finished 1x13 and like. When Juliet was being cryptic, she was telling Shawn that Lassie's into him, right? I mean she made a comment about him wearing a pink shirt right after, in the mid 00s. Like I'm pretty sure Shassie isn't canon but at this point I'm like... how? How do you go for multiple seasons after this without them getting together?? And the thing with the bike at the end there? And this is the episode right after Shawn helped Lassie get his groove back, finally convincing him that Shawn does genuinely care about him. Like. There's literally no heterosexual explanation here, this is a romcom!!! Kinda considering just stopping at some point and live in my imaginary alternate universe where they did get together at the end of season 1. Like. What the fuck else is this???
I knowww. It’s literally a rom com. Lmaoo. Believe me, stuff that occurs later in the show and in the movies is insane. Lol. Like, dear god, Shawn holding Lassie’s hand when he’s asleep was so precious in the second film. I adored it. 😭
I love Shassie so much. It is not canon, but they’re so great. Lassiter being canonically pansexual with two mums is also pretty great.
Jules giggling at them and secretly shipping them in the beginning of the series was so funny. Her being like “H & K’s stands for Hugs & Kisses. 🥰” is and Lassie being like 😑 is so funny. Gus is also very over it.
Shawn makes so many comments about Lassie’s stern bush in the series because I mean, Lassie and his chest hair is 😩💅🏻✨ but that’s beside the point. I’m bias since Timothy Omundson is literally one of my celebrity crushes sooo- anyways.
Those two are actually hopeless. I love them. They’re both pathetic, fruity, and hopeless, but they’re such great characters.
I can like actually rant about them for hours because Psych is my favourite show of all time and will forever be my comfort show.
I am in the process of making a little Psych crossover with a certain fandom. I’ve already done it with House MD butttt I’m doing it to Psych now because I’m an artist and I need to satisfy my urges to make AU’s. Lol.

In Every Life - Timeskip! Osamu x Reader
Pairing: Timeskip! Osamu x Reader Genre: Fluff, Slice of Life Summary: Osamu wonders what life would have been life if they had went down different paths. Takes place in same universe of Redamancy, but can be read separately. Word Count: 1,609
She eyes her fiancee for a while before she softly asks, “What’re you thinking about?”
He blushes and answers too quickly, “Nothin’.”
The movie playing on their television long forgotten as she runs her fingers through his hair, “You’re an awful liar, Osamu.”
“Angel,” he relaxes at her touch. He knows that she’s doing—luring him into a state where he’ll bare his mind and soul to her; and he does nothing to stop it. They’ve played this song and dance before countless times by now, nearly three years in, so he knows how it goes. Still, it doesn’t mean he won’t give in without a little bit of a fight, he’s still a Miya after all. “’S embarrassin’.”
“I won’t laugh,” her voice honeyed in the way she knows makes him melt.
He sighs, as if she’s asking him to do the impossible but she knows it’s all just part of their little back and forth, “Swear?”
“Swear.”
“I was thinkin’,” he hesitates when he feels the rush of heat flood his cheeks. “ya know, what if I never started Onigiri Miya in the first place? Or you never opened up your shop?”
She watches him intently as he speaks, “Do ya think… what if I never found ya?”
Osamu braces himself for laughter that never comes. He braves a glance at her, only to be met with a loving gaze. It was stupid of him to think she’d laugh at him, his soft-hearted girl would never.
“I would’ve found you,” she says with such certainty, “or you would’ve found me some other way.”
“Ya can’t know that,” he shakes his head.
She takes her fingers out of his hair, and just before he’s about to complain she places both hands on his cheeks and gently tugs his face to look at her fully, “I know.”
***
He’s a pro-athlete.
(He finds her.)
Practice was hell, but at least it ended early. It’s 1:00 pm and Osamu is walking down the shopping district looking for a place to eat. It’s a nice place to set up a shop, he thinks as he looks at the various businesses. His wandering mind is what causes the usually hyper observant Osamu to bump into another body.
“Shit, sorry,” he says as he instinctively grabs the person to keep them from falling over. When he looks down at the person he’s just crashed into all he can think about is those god-awful romcoms Atsumu forced him to watch.
Osamu has seen his fair share of beautiful women, but none of them compared to the woman in front of him. Something about her was timeless, naturally elegant and features so undeniably pretty that he’s sure she’s sick of hearing men mention it.
“Geez, thought they’d put up a wall in the time I was gone,” she joked despite her surprise. Her voice was like nothing he had ever heard before, but there was a slight strain to it. It was then that Osamu noticed the heavy looking crate in her hands.
He let out a nervous chuckle, “Sorry, I shoulda looked where I was goin’. Here let me,” he says motioning towards the crate in her hands.
It looked like she was about to protest, but her eyes took in his figure, which made Osamu’s face flush, she nodded, “Yes, please, I feel like my arms are about to fall off.”
He takes the crate from her and is surprised by just how heavy it was. She gives him a grateful smile before she starts walking towards one of the shops; the name on the window reads ‘Ume Field’. He follows behind her, and it crosses his mind how comical it must look seeing Miya Osamu, pro-athlete and rising star, hanging on every word out of this stranger’s mouth.
She unlocks the door and motions for Osamu to walk in first. Once inside he takes a look around the flower shop. It’s cozy, the kind of place you can spend hours in and feel like only a few minutes have gone by.
“You can set that on the floor by the register, please,” she calls out from the front of her shop.
After placing the crate where she asked, he looks at her as she hurriedly reopens her shop. The sign that read ‘Be Back At’ with a written in ‘1:00… promise!’ is flipped to open and she places a handwritten forecourt sign outside. It’s clear by the small shelves next to the door that there’s more steps to her opening, but she pauses them in favor of walking towards him.
“So…” she trails off with an expectant look in her eyes.
“Um, Miya Osamu,” he responds.
“So, Miya-san,” he has never yearned so much for someone to call him by his first name, “thank you for helping me, you are thoroughly forgiven for bumping into me.”
“It was the least I could do, really.”
Osamu took note of the tables and chairs around the flower shop, and wondered why they were there. Seeming to see the slight crease in his eyebrows she said, “Sometimes the cafe across the street gets a little too busy and students like to come in here to study or hang out. So, I figured it’s a win-win, you know? They get a nice place to be and my chances for sales goes up.”
“Is it any good? The cafe, I mean.”
“Do you like coffee?”
He shakes his head.
She laughs and Osamu’s never believed in love at first sight—but damn does this woman make him believe, “Then no, you probably wouldn’t like it. Their pastries are also pretty small, super good, but not very filling. If you’re hungry though, there’s this place a little further down the street with the best ramen you’ve ever had in your life.”
“Do they do orders to go?”
She thinks about it for a moment as she pulls out ceramic watering bells from the crate, “I’m pretty sure?”
“And do you allow ramen in your shop?”
She stops for a moment, watering bells only an inch from the shelf she’s about to stock them at, as she says, “Usually no, but I’m willing to make an exception if you promise not to make a mess.”
“I promise.”
===
Three weeks later, and Atsumu wonders why his brother is buying their ma a bouquet, some times two, of flowers every week. Always different, but always big and expensive looking. When asked Osamu just says, “What? I need a reason to give Ma a gift?”
It isn’t until Atsumu types the name of the shop on Instagram and a picture of the pretty shopkeep shows up on his screen that he understands. His brothers got it bad.
***
Ume Field never opens
(She finds him.)
She thought that working from home would be a saving grace. Maybe if she didn’t have to work in an actual office in an actual cubicle then she wouldn’t feel like her soul had died—how wrong she was. Her nice apartment feels suffocating and she needs to get out or she’s sure she’ll go crazy. So, she finds herself aimlessly walking down the shopping district near her apartment complex.
She passes by a shop she’s never seen before. The lettering on the window reads ‘Onigiri Miya’ with what looks to be the logo accompanying it. There doesn’t seem to be anyone inside and she’d be the first to admit that she loves giving new shops around there a try; so, she walks in.
The chime of the door opening lets the owner know that someone’s entered. She hears a man’s voice call out, “Be right with ya.”
She looked around the restaurant for a moment and couldn’t help but notice the lack of greenery. It was biased of her, but she always thought a place looked a little more inviting with a plant or two around. Anthurium, for hospitality and abundance, would be good to have since the shop was new.
“Sorry for the wait I…” his voice trailed off suddenly when they made eye contact.
Stood before her was the most attractive man she had ever seen. Broad shoulders, strong-looking arms, handsome features, and kind eyes, “It’s okay.”
She sees him shake his head slightly and let out an amused sigh to himself, “What can I get started for you?”
Her eyes are on the menu as she walks up to the counter. She feels his eyes on her, and she’s never been one to seek validation from another person; but she hoped he thought she was just as pretty as she found him to be.
She tells him her order and when she looks back at him with a smile she sees pink color his cheeks, “Can I have a name for the order?”
He tells her it’ll be out soon and to take a seat wherever she’d like. As she walks away she hears him mutter under his breath, “Pretty name too.”
She blushes in a way she hasn’t since she was in high school. She tries to busy herself, but her eyes always seem to find their way back to the man making her food.
Soon enough Onigiri Miya becomes her favorite spot to eat, only because the food is so good and defiantly not because of the handsome owner with the kind eyes.
***
Osamu looks at her, the love of his life, and feels something within his soul comforted by her words. Somehow he knows that she’s right. His face is slightly squished in her talented hands as he says, “Course ya do, petal.”

ok hear me out… hurt comfort w flatmate!matty🙏 this is a bit self indulgent on my behalf (soz) but im imagining reader getting bad news or having to have a difficult phone call from home and not wanting to dump it on matty but obvs they share a wall and he can hear her… holding her hand when she has to make a hard call and telling her she did well, letting her talk ab it but also just being there as support…. im having thoughts 🧍♀️
combining w finding life kinda tough at the moment and needing some matty fluff of him like looking after me for the day lol
you're having a bit of a time of it anyway with work and studying and the emotional drainage of being in love with your best friend and then one day you just get a call from home about something vaguely shitty (idk what) and it just sends you over the edge. and you know matty's next door so you try to bite your lip and breathe to stop from sobbing, but the walls are so thin that even the tiny ones you let out are audible from next door - within seconds, matty's knocking on your door like "sweetheart? you ok?" and when you don't answer (covering your mouth so as not to cry) he gently opens the door and peers in. his heart breaks when he sees you all teary and trembling on your bed, and he just runs over and hugs you tightly into his chest like "oh, darlin', it's alright, i'm here" and you just break down into his chest as he rubs your back and whispers "let it out, baby, that's it. breathe, in through the nose, yeah, you're ok darlin', i've got you". and once you calm down a bit and wipe your eyes you apologise for crying on him and matty's like "hey, none of that, please, s'what i'm here for. you don't have to, but do you want to tell me what's wrong?", and you spill the details of everything that's happened and get a bit teary again, and matty just listens and hugs you through it before saying "i think you need to take some time off work, babe, you're overwhelming yourself. why don't you give them a call and let them know what's up?" (thinking maybe it's exam season but your part-time job keeps scheduling you for overtime and you really can't do it all). and you say "will you sit with me while i do?" and matty's like "always", and he takes your hand and rubs it gently while you phone your boss and resolve the work situation, then kisses your forehead and says "that was good. i'm proud of you for doing that". and then he's determined to make sure you have a nice day - runs you a bubble bath and hands you a cup of tea to take in with you, orders a takeaway to be delivered once you're relaxed from the hot water and wrapped in some cosy pyjamas (aka his clothes lol), then snuggles up with the food and you on the couch watching shitty reality tv and 90s/00s romcoms until you're back to your usual smiley self <3

Hi I know and have seen that you are making sure to keep people aware of what is going on in Israel and Palestine, and I just wanted to say thank you, it is easy to encounter a situation in which people feel that there is nothing more they can do, so they just ignore it and push it to the back of their mind to feel better. So I just wanted to thank you keeping in upfront and evident. 1/2
2/2 I just wanted to share with you and the others this trailer I found. Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Braff and Evelyne Brochu in a love triangle that doesn't seem super toxic. I can see where it's going to go but small steps and all that. French girl Official Trailer on youtube
Ah, thank you. It just feels there should be SO much more of an outcry and if people are quiet because they don't know enough or if they think the situation is too complicated then I can at least show objectively terrible things to cut through that. Because children shouldn't be killed. Journalists, hospitals, civilians shouldn't be attacked. There's no justification to starve a population. No matter how little people know of the situation, no matter what the narrative is from our government and media, those things are true. The best option for the Israeli hostages is a ceasefire and both Israel and the US have concluded Hamas will continue to exist after this, so there's literally no reason this violence should be continuing even if you think catastrophic levels of collateral loss are acceptable for October 7th (which... you shouldn't).
I'm also hoping I can convey just how dark and vicious this all has been and how it's contributing to creating generational levels of trauma and hate. The racism and disregard for brown lives needed to allow this are so apparent and so present in the West, it's really shifting whole worldviews. It isn't only seeing these atrocities, it's the West's support and tacit allowance that's really shaken people. Americans especially who want to ignore it should be ashamed already, but they should be more active if only out of self-preservation, it's going to bounce back, one way or another.
Okay, subject change.
Lol, when I first skimmed your second ask, I misread that as Zac Efron and was like, well him and Vanessa Hudgens in a movie, of course that's going to be the winning couple! But Braff, oh.
So I went and watched the trailer (after first wondering what a toxic love triangle is, exactly) and it feels like a very small step indeed!
youtube
It seems very similar to the '90s and '00s romcoms, you got your hapless Relatable loser of a lead with his perfect gf and then suddenly her perfect ex but of course hapless Relatable loser "wins" because the gf loves him, dammit.
I know various romcoms have done that, but I feel like at least a few storylines, movies and TV, have had the ex be a woman?
I suppose it's not inherently bad to be so old-fashioned or have the woman lose the love triangle but it's just... you know. The framing and predictability and going this particular way, it feels as if the whole movie is going to be the ex being better, him being jealous over it, and the gf reassuring him over it.
But that's just the trailer, and who knows, maybe they'll subvert it. I did laugh at these comments:

writeblr intro
hey i'm chance! i used to be on writeblr under a old username ages ago and i'm excited to be back. i don't know if they do these intros anymore (its been a while lol) but here's mine.
✨ [ about ]
i'm queer and don't usually identify with any gender, though i use they/he pronouns. i also don't identify with any sexuality label most of the time. i like people and i like being whomever the fuck i want.
i'm an adult (born in 03) and to tend to delve into adult-oriented topics and tend to pepper my posts with so much fucking swearing. i also am pretty sure i'm neurodivergent (no diagnose or anything yet though) and tend to delve into hyper-fixations for weeks at a time. if i haven't posted for a while, it's probably because of one of my other hyper-fixations or school.
🌐 [ interests ]
i'm interested in a bunch of genres, but i most often enjoy ::
romance
action
sci-fi
dystopian
heist
cyberpunk.
otherwise i enjoy ::

Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors - 2/5
I glimpsed, for a moment, a reality in which I loved this book.
I picked up this book not because I had any particular reason to expect to like it, but because in terms of publicity, it has everything going for it. Cleopatra and Frankenstein is all over Instagram thanks to its memorable title and compelling cover design. Its author looks like the secret fifth member of ABBA with a name like an early 00s tabloid star. Seriously, I spent a long time googling her trying to uncover a previous career as a less evil Perez Hilton that I was certain I half remembered from 2004.
Anyway. What a disappointment.
Cleopatra and Frankenstein is fine, but that’s about it. A big influence I felt while reading this book was A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (which, controversially, I liked). This is a much more optimistic take on the same high-flying New Yorkers with artistic careers and mental health disorders. The appeal is both the human drama of unhappy people with the kind of eccentricities that you really only seem to get in New York (can you imagine some of this stuff happening to a person from Ohio? I can’t), and the voyeuristic literary tourism of the New York setting. Unfortunately, Coco Mellors is no Hanya Yanagihara. Yanagihara was a travel writer before becoming a novelist and you can absolutely tell. Her New York is illustrated with lush descriptions of expensive meals, humid parties, champagne-scented art shows. The book’s deep tragedy is juxtaposed with the greatest delights of a world class city. It’s something Mellors can’t match.
I felt this most acutely in the scene in which Frank and Cleo meet Cleo’s parents at a seafood restaurant in Grand Central Station (also, what’s the deal with this restaurant? The characters visit the same one for a tense family reunion in The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney. Surely y’all have more than one restaurant). The food arrives, interrupting the mortifyingly awkward conversation with this flaccid description:
The ruby-red lobsters sat at the center, their shells cracked open to reveal the plump flesh within. Nestled around them were freshly shucked oysters, chubby pink prawns, green-lipped mussels, and clams the size of a human palm. Flimsy white paper cups of tartar sauce and thick slices of lemon finished the impressive display.
It’s clearly meant to evoke the glittering decadence of New York’s overpriced tourist traps, but the paragraph falls flat. Perhaps it’s the clichés of the ‘ruby-red lobsters’, ‘plump flesh’, and ‘chubby pink prawns’, or the tell-don’t-show of the ‘impressive display.’ I was underwhelmed before I’d even finished the paragraph. I still remember Yanagihara’s “JB snored juicily” because that adjective surprised me. The seafood is a microcosm of the whole book, which just isn’t written well enough to support its loose plot construction. When the subject matter is otherwise so mundane and naturalistic, I expect the writing to provide something more of interest.
The actual plot was fine. Whatever. It didn’t exactly blow my skirt right off. I preferred the young artist looking for direction in Sirens & Muses by Antonia Angress. If we want to look at the young artiste involved with an older man who isn’t good for her, I liked it better in My Dark Vanessa, My Last Innocent Year, and Green Dot. I don’t really feel like Cleopatra and Frankenstein’s more neutral and ambivalent take on the relationship dynamic is really adding anything super significant. Sometimes people can just be bad for each other and being twice as old as your girlfriend isn’t actually that predatory — okay? I guess? I can watch a forty plus year old guy being an ill-suited date to a twenty-something in any romcom. I didn’t find Frank particularly charming and it felt like his flaws were mostly raised just to remind the reader that he isn’t necessarily malicious. Cleo’s problems didn’t hit any more effectively. After reading The Guest by Emma Cline, My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh, and three quarters the of books by Taylor Jenkins Reid, I was starting to get exhausted by books about women who are dazzlingly attractive but also sad. There’s a limit to how much an ugly bitch such as myself can empathized with the experience of being suffocated by men throwing themselves at the hollow projection they’ve made of a beautiful woman. Believe it or not some of us go through our lives without men every throwing themselves at us in any way. This exhaustion was underlined by Cleopatra and Frankenstein’s one blindingly great scene.
I glimpsed, for a moment, a reality in which I loved this book.
Like A Little Life and Sirens & Muses, Cleopatra and Frankenstein bounces between narrators within Cleo and Frank’s social circle. One of these is Eleanor, a former screenwriter, who at thirty-seven, finds herself living back in her mother’s house, with a job she hates, no friends, no romantic prospects, and a father slowly dying of Parkinson’s. Unlike other narrators, Eleanor’s sections are told through extremely short vignettes, dramatically limiting Mellors’ usual ruminations, forcing her into dialogue and action. In one scene Eleanor and her mother go shopping on Black Friday, where, surrounded by pajama-ed customers, Eleanor breaks down.
“All men leave you!” I scream. “I still have a chance!” “What exactly are you saying to me?” yells my mother. “YOU CANNOT BE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!” A man wheeling an overflowing shopping cart appears at the end of the aisle, gives me a terrified look, and heads the opposite way. I hold on to the display towel rack and bow my head. “I want more, Ma,” I say. “Wouldn’t you?”
After this tiff, her mother ignores her until they are both coerced into a massage chair demonstration by an enthusiastic salesperson
“Eleanor!” she calls over the vibrations of the chair. “Ma!” “I never wanted you to have less!” she says.
This scene reached down my throat and into my lungs to grab my heart. I cried reading it. I’m tearing up now just from copying it down.
It was like a keyhole into a book exploring the crushing existential weight of disappointment, of the relationship between two people, neither of whom understand why their life just somehow didn’t work out. I’m way deeper in my feels about this theoretical story of wasted potential than I am about yet another book about a girl who is so beautiful she can have whatever she wants if she could only want things that are good for her. Disappointment and underachievement aren’t easy to explore in fiction because they defy narrative and are inherently unsatisfying. Narratively it is more satisfying for Eleanor to eventually get together with Frank and live happily ever after, fulfilling her need for partnership and demonstrating his emotional maturity. But existentially it is disappointing that Eleanor’s answer is to just keep waiting, fulfillment will come along, eventually. Just keep waiting.
Cleopatra and Frankenstein wants quite badly to be a grounded book about emotionally ambivalent characters. A key theme is characters that are unhappy and unfulfilled even when they feel like they should be. Apparently good things — a rich patron, a beautiful younger wife — have unexpected consequences. Frank and Anders, the emotional immaturity brothers, have both been acting like nothing is wrong unless they acknowledge it for so long that they’ve become entirely incapable of self-reflection. Oops! All Manic Pixie Dream Girls. The various happy endings feel therefore trite and vaguely embarrassing. The only one that hits right for me is Cleo’s, which is by far the most ambiguous. If a few more of the characters had been invited to reflect on why the want the things they want, rather than just getting them, it might even have turned the story around for me. What doesn’t hit right is that the book’s only queer character, self-identified Gay Best Friend (yikes) Quentin, is the only character to get a truly bad ending. His narrative is set up for him to battle shame, embrace a more feminine presentation, and become less codependent on shitty boyfriends and expensive drugs. Instead, Cleo loses contact with him when he becomes addicted to meth. It’s by far the darkest fate in the book and feels particularly out of place since everyone else gets a happily ever after. Even serial philanderer Anders gets a long-term girlfriend and a dog. The optics of Quentin’s fate are deeply unflattering in a book that otherwise seems to take the criticism that Friends has too many white people in it as a personal challenge.
Considering all the hype it has received, I was hoping that Cleopatra and Frankenstein would be really good, but it isn’t really anything at all. There are some good ideas, but frankly I just don’t get why the novel went in the direction it did. Why invest so heavily in the ambivalent emotional crises of a bunch of characters just to pair them off with their one true love at the end? Why invoke so many iconic sights and sounds of New York if you have little to offer but clichés? Why carefully construct a diverse social group if you’re going to end with your only gay character dropping out to drug addiction? If all you see in this novel is an easy way to fill up an Instagram graphic then, genuinely, I get it, but beyond that this book barely holds up to the most cursory read.

Types of manga on the all time bestseller list, grouped by how surprising I found their various rankings:
Completely expected
00s shounen that became the face of anime. They might be good, they might be bad, but you know who they are.
Post-2010 popular action shounen you may or may not have read but you've definitely heard of. Globalization and the increased cultural acceptance of anime mean lots of recent record breakers. I just found a Spy x Family surprise toy at Five Below.
Rumiko Takahashi
80s coming-of-age baseball romcom in what we might call a "soft retro Rumiko Takahashi art style" because none of these are known outside of Japan. Their super high placement only seems bizarre if you haven't been a weeb your whole life
Old classics (astro boy, rose of Versailles)
Horny classics (much of the lowest tier)
90s or older gag comedy built on dudes contorting their faces like silly putty
Silly little kid adventures
80s sports manga that starts off realistic but gradually descends into madness to raise the stakes
Sports manga that doesn't start realistic and there's no way any of these moves are legal but the characters are all passionate cute boys
Cooking manga that only me and Japan know about. Cooking Papa should be even higher.
Pleasantly surprised
Horrible violent delinquents beat the fuck out of each other to determine who's the Worst. Cover is a sneering teen in a gakuran with a slick pompadour if it's near the 80s or shaved if closer to the 00s
Horrible violent delinquents beat the fuck out of each other but it's funny. Be glad it was made back then because "lol couldn't make this today" is something you'll think often
Realistic slice of life depiction of Just Some Guy
Vagabound? What are you doing up here?
Objectively knew of its popularity but still shocked by it
Visceral, anatomically unusual 80s-90s manga about muscular men committing increasingly bizarre acts of violence on each other. Always a favorite with 2000s gammer sites obsessed with proving their hobbies' manliness and those who liked posting contextless pages to freak people out. I don't have a problem with this so much as I can't grasp how stuff like Baki the Grappler isn't hyper niche.
Kid detectives. Another example of the "I already knew this was insanely popular but I'm not sure why" genre except unlike Baki the Grappler, I've read Conan and Kindaichi Files.
The first shojo appearance for miles, Boys Over Flowers. Did these books come with opium dusted on that shit or what
Unpleasantly surprised
Mediocre shonen you kind of knew was popular simply because the title popped a lot but YOU'VE never heard anyone talk about it, you're pretty sure you've never met a fan, and all the anime forums you wasted your time on wouldn't even bother insulting it, it was so low on the radar
All the big shojo names are lower than you'd think
Why is DEATH NOTE lower than the fucking SLIME ISEKAI?!?
Futari Ecchi 👎👎👎

I was tagged by the wonderful @itwoodbeprefect to list 7 comfort movies and tag 7 people. thank you 🥰 I'm pretty sure nobody who follows me will be surprised by this list 😂
The Mummy Returns (2001) - the sequel to beat all sequels! it ranks higher for me than the first movie because of Alex, Alex and Jonathan's shenanigans, Evie and Rick's relationship, more Ardeth Bay, and basically just everything
The Mummy (1999) - one of the best movies ever made! this is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Mamma Mia (2008) - I love fun movies with good music 🤷♀️
10 Things I Hate About You (1999) - late 90s/early 00s romcoms for the win! every single line is iconic
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days (2003) - HE LET THEIR LOVE FERN DIE 😭😭😭
Work It (2020) - I have two left feet but I love dancing movies
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020) - girls supporting girls! also, that cheese and egg sandwich 😭
honorable mentions: The Old Guard (2020, if you try to bury your gays, they come back to bury you), Aladdin (both versions. childhood nostalgia plus the jams!), Fired Up! (2009, don't judge)
no pressure tag: @hotchocolateandpillowforts @just-a-glittery-fan @missing-tony @woulddoanythingfor1989tv @carolinemathildes @zarafey @i-need-a-doctor-run

8, 12 and 49 for the ask game!! and 50 :3
Thank yoooouuu 😘 I'm stealing your very brilliant idea of screenshotting the questions!
Oh, great question! I actually used to be very inspired by AM songs and lyrics when I first started writing. Having a lyric pop out to me and spark a whole story in my head or a simple line becoming the title of a fic I simply had to write. Hence why all my fics have lyrics as their titles 😎
To answer the question! Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend! I've got a very tiny wip called "keep your charm where i can't see it (and your hands where i can)" because I just LOOOOOVE that line. And it sparks so much tension and temptation and I had the idea of a spin the bottle/get drunk at a house party/accidentally make out with your friend and BOOM find out you feel very differently than you thought about said friend. The whole trying to resist the temptation because it just feels so good but you don't want to ruin the friendship... That kinda thing. Who knows if it will ever see the light of day 😘
Hmm, I don't know if there are any tropes really to speak of that I didn't like.. But I've gotten a lot better at reading scary/horror themed stories. We have so many incredibly talented writers in this fandom who write the most amazing scary stories and I simply had to learn 😂 Even if they still scare me sometimes! I don't really think I'll ever be able to write any myself tho. The closest I've managed is a very brief wip inspired by What We Do In The Shadows, and let's be real, that's really not scary at all 😂
Ooohh. My current wip is... Well, it's really my white whale. The one that keeps me up at night. It's the first milex fic I ever came up with, the thing that really started it all. And it's just. My baby. I love it so much and I've literally been trying to write it for TWO YEARS and it's just the most difficult thing I've ever tried to write. I'm at about 70k at this point and every word is a struggle but I want it done. I don't know if the two years of effort will be evident in the final work so don't have too high expectations please, but it's just so very important and special to me.
It will be called "you've got control of everyone's eyes (including mine)". And here is a small snippet:
Miles just looked at him, as if expecting Alex to say something. But if Miles thought his mere presence alone was enough to rattle Alex, to throw him off his game, he thought wrong! If he thought he could come here and ruffle Alex's feathers and get him all worked up he was sorely mistaken. Alex didn't care! Not one bit. He was cool. Miles had no effect on him whatsoever. Not tonight, that was for sure, if that's what he thought. Alex was calm and collected and all that.
Aaahhhh you made me choose one too 😂🥰
I'll take this cheeky opportunity to talk about question 17, an au I would like to read/write even if no one else will appreciate it..
Because that's the second long wip I've got going at the moment.
I'm writing a high school rivals fic, complete with americanized stereotypes, the hot jock, the mysterious punk badboy, the obnoxious gossipy cheerleaders.. and of course it's just chuckful of cheesy 90/00s romcom teen moments. Something along the lines of movies like 10 things I hate about you, bring it on, good old stuff. I adore it so far and I really hope I'll one day be able to finish it as well! 💅✨
Thank you so much for the lovely questions!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

—A Snake in Tall Grass—
{ A DRDT AU}
“Bye sweetheart! I’m going to get groceries!” Xander announced as he gave Teruko a quick peck on the cheek.
“I’m right here, no need to be so loud.” She giggled, a trace of red creeping up on her face.
“I know I know, I just can’t help but be happy to see you every day.” He brought his hand up to the girl’s face and brushed her cheek lightly as she leaned into the palm of his hand.
“Remember, don’t use the kitchen. We don’t want a repeat of last time, do we?” He gently scolded her. As if he was snapping back into reality, he ran out the door towards the car shouting a rushed “I love you.”
Teruko was lucky to have such a caring boyfriend. She was lucky to be living the life she was anyway. A nice suburban neighborhood where kids can play safely, neighbors she could get acquainted with, and someone who cared for her safety. Especially someone as handsome as Xander. He sure as hell was a ladies’ man, but never once did he show any sign of disloyalty or harshness. After reminiscing about her life for another minute or so, she plopped on the living room couch and began scrolling through social media.
Two hours had passed and Teruko was still lying on the couch, this time watching a sappy romcom and laughing while imagining her and Xander in that situation.
“Shit.” She muttered, “where is Xander? He said he’d be home an hour ago.” She paused the TV and picked up her phone, entering the passcode and texting Xander about his location.
About another twenty minutes had passed when she heard the front door open. To her relief, it was Xander. She immediately sat up and began questioning him. Xander had an ashamed look on his face before he answered.
“Teruko I’m so sorry. I was planning on coming home but then this kind man approached me and handed me a brochure for this group counseling therapy thing. And one thing led to another and we started talking.” Teruko was a bit relieved that he hadn’t been kidnapped or anything, but still sour that he didn’t contact her beforehand. She shrugged it off though, as she enjoyed seeing Xander passionate about something.
“He told me you and I should stop by for a visit, said he thinks we would fit right in. Plus it’d be good for us to talk to someone. I know we’ve had some obstacles in our lives and I think it would be very helpful for us to get those out. For ourselves and our relationship, you know what I mean?” He inquired, tilting his head. That was true, Teruko did keep a lot of her feelings bottled up, plus she had nothing better to do.
“Sound’s like a plan, when are the sessions?” As soon as she asked, Xander opened the brochure and scanned over the details.
“Says it’s on Saturdays from 1:00 to 5:00, but you can come and go as you please.” He answered. Teruko nodded, it sounded like a pretty open schedule.
“Cool, let’s do it!” Teruko responded. “I’m kinda tired, I’m gonna head to bed if that’s cool.” She yawned as she walked away, eager to get into bed. Before she reached the hallway to their bedroom, she stopped herself and turned around.
“Hey, Xander. What was the guy’s name?” She asked curiously, if she was going to a session with this man she’d want to know his name.
“Oh, It’s David Chiem!” He smiled and continued reading the pamphlet.
(Ok guys sorry for my inactivity i’ve been rly drained but heres the start of a totally not suspicious AU to make up for it, also the title doesn’t have any symbolic meaning really i just thought it looked cool)

You picked
NIGHTTIME ROUTIN!!!!!!
This is a very lose interpretation but I would love love to hear your thoughs
So I think bed time routine starts at around 8:00
They eat at maybe 7:30 so that kyoko and byakuya have enough time to get home and shuichi Star dinner before they do so they eat right when they get home
After dinner I think that two parents go off to like shower and change into sleeping clothes and basicly do the big part of there routine while the other parent stays behind to help shuichi
They when shuichi only have like teeth brushing hair brushing and like washing his face the parent that was helping him goes to do bulk of their routine and once that parents done they come back to the room to all tuck in shuichi and read him a story of his choosing and he is like in bed and asleep by 9:00
Then I think they go back to their room and do whatever they didn’t do, watch tv, read, or just talk about their days
ok first off this got me thinking "Ok Kirigiri and Togami probably ride to and from work together to save gas n stuff especially since they both work in the city" and now I'm at "Wait does Togami even have his license DOES HE EVEN KNOW HOW TO DRIVE" cause like he's probably always had a chauffeur n stuff and yeah it's something I can see him wanting but before and after the heir ceremony I can see it as something his dad would see as more of a waste of his time and not allow? so that's some food for thought. Also I could see Naegi usually being the one to get Shuichi ready for bed but it's also a job that Kirigiri or Togami will tag in for depending on the day. Also a rotation on who's actually reading to him and they read different books each time. so like, Naegi reads some classic kids book, kirigiri works through a mystery novel (think like Nancy drew, Geronimo stilton that type beat, in the morning they talk about how they think it'll end over breakfast) and with Togami they work through a pretty long book like think The Hobbit (Kirigiri and Naegi are also passed out once he's done lmao) Once he's eepin sleepin I could see them also using that time to make sure they've got everything ready for the week and like if Naegi has a work trip coming up this is the time he uses to pack for it all last minute yknow. If they have nothin going on then they talk about their days n life n Shuichi n connect yknow? I could see them watching scary movies n bad romcoms too lol ALSO! Altered schedule for when Naegi is on work trips since he picks up Shuichi from school n stuff (Since Shuichi gets out of school before the other two parents get back from work) Points at Shuichi ASC KID when he was tiny it was After School Care but when he's older he'll get picked up at a friend's house (Like Kaito or smth not all the way back at Jabberwock lmao dw) and from there they get dinner on the way back (Ramen or smth) if they arent feeling that Naegi might make some Tupperwares of food before hand that they can just microwave ("You guys can use a microwave right?" "Yeah totally we got this" Kirigiri said, reheating her bowl of mac and cheese with the metal spoon still in the bowl) Same song and dance but with them FaceTiming Naegi at eepy sleepy time, they still relax after he's down and I could see them playing Clue or smth I unno I think they'd enjoy that lmao
#eggs can answer#g-eetings#naegamigiri#byakuya togami#makoto naegi#kyoko kirigiri#shuichi saihara#naegi is a fluffy dumb silly romcom enjoyer you will listen to me#look me in the eyes you know it's true#good soup good soup this was so fun to thikn about#also CAN TOGAMI DRIVE???? THE QUESTION IS HAUNTING ME NOW LMAO#also also also also I must award you the highest honor I can bestow:#this made me wanna listen to The Crane Wives while I wrote this#I love the crane wives so so so so so so so much I struggle to explain why#also just. the longer I listen#the longer I think about togami its funny
